An audited certification scheme
- Assessed by an independent body, with evidence reviewed by a third party.
- Methodology aligned to the GHG Protocol and, in some schemes, to SBTi principles.
- Scheme rules governed externally — Planet Mark's are aligned to ISO 17065.
- Recognised by name in tenders, frameworks and lender questionnaires.
- Annual recertification, usually requiring demonstrated reductions.
- Weeks of work and a professional fee.
Choose an audited scheme when
A tender, a framework or a lender asks for independently verified emissions; you need GHG Protocol, ISO 14083 or SECR assurance in writing; or your claim will be read as third-party verified whatever the small print says. In the UK that means schemes such as Planet Mark, whose scheme rules are aligned to ISO 17065 and governed by an external board, and whose members must demonstrate reductions annually.
Your GreenTurtle assessment is not wasted if you go that route. The vehicle list, distance sources and evidence trail export as a CSV and a method note, which is most of what an assessor will ask you for first.
