Zero tailpipe does not mean zero-carbon.

Understand how the GreenTurtle Standard counts grid electricity for battery electric vehicles and treats plug-in hybrids in fleet carbon measurement.

Separate the exhaust from the energy

A battery electric vehicle has no tailpipe emissions when driven. That does not make its electricity-related emissions zero. Under the supplied Standard v1 method, a DESNZ average BEV per-kilometre factor counts grid electricity.

Keep the scope clear

The method’s electricity treatment should not be presented as a full vehicle lifecycle assessment. Manufacturing, infrastructure and other lifecycle impacts are not established by a zero-tailpipe claim.

Treat plug-in hybrids separately

The supplied method uses a DESNZ average PHEV per-kilometre factor for plug-in hybrids. It does not use the vehicle’s WLTP figure for fleet totals. Label the treatment so a reader can distinguish it from a battery electric vehicle.

Understand what the tier says

GreenTurtle Standard tiers use the share of the fleet that is pure battery electric. A higher tier does not, by itself, quantify a carbon reduction or establish a carbon-neutral fleet.

Make an informed fleet decision

Discuss vehicle duty, charging access, utilisation and replacement needs alongside the carbon method. The right operating choice depends on the work your fleet needs to perform.
